Old Baldy Lighthouse
Old Baldy is just a short walk from the Inn at Bald Head Island. Come inside the Smith Island Museum & Gift Shop to purchase tickets for self guided tours of the museum and North Carolina`s oldest lighthouse. The shop offers books, t-shirts, home goods, souvenirs and more. Proceeds benefit the Old Baldy Foundation. Admission to the museum, which includes the opportunity to climb the lighthouse, is $8 for adults 13 and up and $5 for youth ages 3 to 12. Under 3 free. Open Tuesday-Saturday 10-4 pm. No tickets sold a half hour prior to close. | |

Bald Head Island Conservancy
The Bald Head Island Conservancy is a non-profit organization that was founded in 1983. Its Barrier Island Study Center campus, which is open to the public, is located near the base of the Cape Fear Light. The Conservancy`s motto is to Discover, Learn, Conserve and Preserve. The Conservancy engages in scientific research that benefits coastal communities and provides numerous recreational programs and educational activities to the public. Be sure to stop by Turtle Central, a marvelous gift shop on the campus where proceeds support the Conservancy`s mission. | |

Bald Head Historic Island Tours

M. Kent Mitchell Nature Trail
Located just off Federal Road, the M. Kent Mitchell Nature Trail spans the marsh along Bald Head Creek and winds through a maritime forest hammock. On the trail you`ll have a chance to see a range of Bald Head Island`s flora and fauna. Tree and plant species are labeled along the way. You`re almost always sure to spot waterbirds feeding along the marsh. | |
