Memorial Day Weekend 2025 on Bald Head Island

As the unofficial start of summer season on Bald Head Island, Memorial Day Weekend is marked by events to bring families together, celebrate the island’s way of life, and most importantly, to recognize and remember our fallen heroes.

Side Porch Oyster Roast
The Maritime Market is hosting a Side Porch Oyster Roast on Friday, May 23 from 5-7 p.m. Enjoy an incredible spread of steamed oysters, steamed jumbo shrimp, pulled pork barbecue, chicken, and a host of sides and treats.  They’ll also have live music and a few other surprises in store. Their Tiki Bar will be open, but you can also slip inside the Market and purchase beer or wine and bring it to your table.  Seats are limited, and this event always sells out, so reserve yours no later than Monday, May 19.

Summer Nights Celebration at the Bald Head Island Club
On Saturday, May 24 from 5-9 p.m., kick off the summer season with indulgent food stations, live music and dancing at the Bald Head Island Club’s Ocean Room. Reservations required by calling 910-457-7300 or emailing [email protected].

Smith Island Art League Show & Sale
The Smith Island Art League will hold a members’ show and sale on Saturday and Sunday, May 24th and 25th from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. at the Bald Head Island Association Center (beside the Chapel). This event is open to the public with free admission.  Art League members show a variety of styles and mediums such as ceramics, oil and watercolor paintings, cards, jewelry, fabric art, photography and more.

5K Turtle Trot - Memorial Day Edition
Meet at the Conservancy on Sunday, May 25 for a road race benefiting the Conservancy’s turtle protection programs. The run starts at 8:30, but you’ll want to be there about a half hour early to line up. Prizes for top male and female are awarded in each age group and a cool T-shirt is included in the registration. Register online no later than the evening before the race.

Memorial Day Pool Party at the Shoals Club
On Sunday, May 25 enjoy an afternoon of family fun in the sun at the Shoals Club pool. Music, pool games and more!

Bald Head Island Memorial Day Ceremony
Join us on Monday, May 26th, 2025, from 11 a.m.-noon for a poignant Memorial Day Ceremony at the Village Chapel of Bald Head Island. This event, hosted by the Village Chapel of Bald Head Island and the Old Baldy Foundation, is an opportunity to come together as a community to reflect, honor, and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. Captain Terry Bragg (US Navy - Retired), former Executive Director of the Battleship North Carolina, will be the ceremony keynote speaker.
